Verizon Enterprise Solutions delivers the promise of the connected world. During the second quarter of 2018, we helped clients around the globe provide better customer experiences and produce better business results through services such as advanced networking, business communications and managed services. Second quarter 2018 highlights include:
Federal Government & Public Safety Initiatives:
The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) took a significant step forward in its Everything Over IP initiative by migrating one if its key agencies to a unified communications (UC) platform. The DoD replaced two legacy systems with a single next generation solution which can seamlessly integrate voice, video, instant messaging, presence and conferencing. This creates a platform for constituents and federal employees to efficiently communicate across channels and embrace a more digital and customized end-user experience.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HSCO) renewed its agreement with Verizon for wireless services enabling HCSO to better serve the more than four million residents of Harris County, Texas. In addition to the 4G LTE wireless service, Verizon will improve Harris County’s ability to communicate directly and more expeditiously to front line first responders and the general public by implementing a solution that deploys real time notifications.
Verizon continued to reaffirm its commitment to public safety by announcing its support for a new alliance created to promote the advancement of open, standards-based, and interoperable communications for the nation’s first responders. The Public Safety Technology Alliance (PSTA) will help promote the development and adoption of open, best-in-class, standards-based technologies to ensure interoperability between different networks, applications, and databases. Verizon’s role in the alliance will be as a member of its Executive Advisory Council, which will provide advice, insights, and recommendations to the PSTA Board.
Seguridad
Verizon’s 2018 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) was issued including data from 67 contributing organizations and analysis on over 53,000 incidents and 2,216 breaches from 65 countries. Ransomware continued to be a key cybersecurity threat for organizations across the globe while human errors also continued to be a weakness with financial pretexting and phishing attacks targeting multiple verticals.
Verizon launched the Threat Intelligence Platform Service – a subscription-based service combining intelligence from Verizon’s DBIR series with cyber-situational awareness from Verizon's Threat Research Advisory Center. The new service tracks threats across Verizon’s own global IP backbone and is delivered via the Anomali Threat Platform to offer current information on cyber-threats. These can then be analyzed by experienced consultants from Verizon’s Professional Services team in-situ at the customer’s site, depending on the level of service desired, so they can identify threats early in the cyber-kill chain and determine the best course of combative action.
Internet of Things
Verizon’s IoT platform, ThingSpace, announced a new program and set of services called ThingSpace Ready. Designed to help device developers easily and cost effectively build, certify and manage devices on Verizon’s leading network, ThingSpace Ready alleviates hurdles by making it easier for developers to acquire more affordable cellular modules, IoT SIMs and hardware design services via arrangements with Bittium, G+D Mobile Security, Mobilogix, Quectel, Sequans and u-blox. ThingSpace supports connectivity in over 200 countries & territories via global agreements.
Thought Leadership
A Verizon sponsored survey of 165 senior IT leaders from large global organizations, conducted by Longitude, a Financial Times company, confirmed the emergence of SDN as the key to effective network transformation and business growth. The survey highlighted that SDN deployment was now firmly underway with 15 percent of companies surveyed already piloting or deploying SDN technologies. This figure is set to rise to 57 percent within two years, with 12 percent expecting to have deployed SDN throughout their entire organization in that time frame.
