AWS is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform that supports creating, managing and connecting innovative applications. The platform is trusted by tens of thousands of application developers who are able to use their skills to rapidly build, test and deploy a wide variety of consumer and business applications.
One of the advantages of AWS is the depth and breadth of the platform. AWS offers over 175 fully featured services, from infrastructure technologies like compute, storage and databases, to emerging technologies, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), data lakes and analytics and Internet of Things (IoT), as well as for application development, deployment and management.
Developers will be able to connect to the Verizon 5G network using a new virtual private cloud (VPC) gateway called Carrier Gateway. This enables them to attach Verizon-provided public IP addresses to Amazon® Elastic Compute CloudTM (Amazon EC2 ®) instances.
MEC is all about positioning compute, storage and related infrastructure closer to the end user, to provide bandwidth-and latency-optimized access. Verizon is building out Service Access Points (SAP) across its footprint to facilitate the placement of MEC elements.
In addition, Verizon’s vision for building out fiber, small-cell technology and other network densification efforts have put it at the forefront of meeting next-generation application requirements. By making the 5G Edge platform available to developers, we can unlock new business and consumer use cases that were previously impossible due to technology limitations. 5G Edge should eventually support applications that utilize real-time data, low latency, up to 10 Gbps throughput and massive numbers of connected devices and simultaneous users.
With Verizon 5G Edge, you are able to launch resources in Wavelength Zones via the standard Amazon EC2 application programming interfaces (APIs) and management console. You can include a desired Wavelength Zone, or multiple Wavelength Zones, as part of your VPC. You will be able to use a single Wavelength Zone to target a specific area; for applications over a wider geographic area, you can deploy across multiple Wavelength Zones. Regardless, you will be able to achieve very low latency and, as a result, enhanced performance.
