Section III.2 – Layer 3 PVC

 

The Layer 3 permanent virtual circuit (Layer 3 PVC) provides Customer a PIP Layer 3 connection  consisting of Internet Protocol (IP) access using a frame relay port to the Private IP Service network enabling IP data networking using multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) technology (PIP Network).  Customer’s data is broken down into discrete IP packets and sent over the PIP Network.  IP packets may be sent using frame relay (FR) or packet over SONET (POS-FR), and Multilink Frame Relay (MLFR) encapsulation methods.

 

Customer must subscribe to Layer 3 PVC on a per port basis.

 

2.1       Route Limits:  Customer may not introduce into the PIP Network more routes than Customer has been assigned, based on the topology and number of sites in the Customer’s network.    Company allows the following number of routes in Customer‘s Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) table based upon the number of Customer sites (circuits) in a given VPN.

2.2       Layer 3 PVC Service Options:  Customer must choose one of the following Private IP Service options under Verizon Business Services II or Verizon Business Services III:

 

2.2.1    Standard Service:  PIP Network traffic is marked as AF3 by Company.

 

2.2.2    Enhanced Traffic Management:  Enhanced Traffic Management (ETM) allows the Customer to assign five traffic priorities to PIP Network traffic as follows, in order of priority:  "EF", "AF4", "AF3", "AF2, "AF1", and "General Business".  Company handles the traffic assigned to these priority classes based on Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standards.  The chart below shows the respective IETF names used for these classes.  Before traffic leaves Customer's Premises, the Customer’s premises equipment (CPE) assigns traffic to an ETM traffic priority class, based either on (i) the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Differentiated Services (DiffServ) Code Point (DSCP) settings or, (ii) IP precedence settings that Customer applies to the Type of Service (ToS) byte in the IP header of their IP traffic.  Customer may order ETM by selecting a low to high speed range and will pay the monthly recurring charges for such selected range.

Customers under Verizon Business Services II or Verizon Business Services III who order ETM by subscribing to a Gold CAR may order it at a speed that is less than or equal to 90 percent of the port speed.
