Alley and Verizon: Bringing 5G network technology to life

As 5G comes closer to reality, Verizon continues to work with innovative universities, start-ups and other companies to develop the use cases that will run on tomorrow’s 5G networks.

At Alley, site of Verizon’s 5G incubator in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood, five of those innovators have been using real 5G technology to develop, refine and demonstrate ways 5G networks will change the ways we live, learn, work and play.

• NYU is experimenting with interactive augmented reality in education, allowing students to interact in real-time with educational AR content in 3D on mobile devices.
• Columbia University students and faculty are creating virtual reality therapist-patient exercises focused on motor skill improvement to enable physical rehabilitation when the therapist and patient are at different locations.
• Arvizio is developing immersive mixed reality collaboration tools that have the potential to improve processes and support remote workers in industries such as construction and engineering.
• LiquidSky is creating high-quality cloud gaming experiences that eliminate the need for hardware platforms and wired connections.
• BriefCam is using 5G’s high bandwidth and speed to perform in-depth intelligent analytics of HD video to improve and understand pedestrian and traffic flow in cities, customer flow in businesses, and ways to improve public safety.

And the work continues. Verizon’s 5G incubator at Alley will continue to give today’s 5G thought leaders the opportunity to explore the power and potential of this game-changing technology, and to develop the use cases that will bring it to life.
