Being prepared for disasters or emergencies is something people should think about every day, not just once a year.  That was the big take-away from a recent event Verizon participated in to mark National Preparedness Month in September.

With the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy nearing, that is a powerful message that resonates all across the Garden State – both with individuals and with communities that were left to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of last year’s storm.

The American Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop joined Verizon at the event to stress the importance of disaster preparedness, emergency communications and volunteerism and how the lessons of Superstorm Sandy will help better prepare people for future emergencies or disasters.

The Red Cross offers helpful emergency preparedness tips for consumers and businesses at www.redcross.org/prepare. Verizon provides updates on preparations for and response to hurricanes or other serious natural or man-made events at www.veriozn.com/newswww.verizonwireless.com/news or www.verizonenterprise.com/about/news.
