What is a DMZ?

A demilitarized zone (DMZ) is either a small network or computer host (DMZ host) that is inserted between a private network and the Internet. The DMZ is a network security neutral zone with less restricted connection to the internet.

If you are having connection issues with your gaming console, including lag, NAT, or voice communication, try moving it to the DMZ. A DMZ allows all traffic, so it’s a good alternative to port forwarding for online gaming.

Note: Moving a device into a DMZ bypasses firewall and security settings, and more secure alternatives are available. Do not use a DMZ on a PC or laptop as it is more vulnerable to an outside attack than a home network.

To setup the DMZ, you will need the local IP address of the device you want to put in the DMZ. On most devices, you will find the IP address in settings / network settings menu. We also recommend you select a static IP address.

How do I setup a DMZ on my router?

    Open your Web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address field. Enter the router's username and password

    Click the Firewall Settings icon at the top of the screen, then click DMZ Host

    Enter the IP address of the device you want to put in the DMZ and click OK. Your device is now in the DMZ and more accessible to the Internet
