About taxes, fees and wireless surcharges
Verizon wireless surcharges
Verizon wireless surcharges include (i) a Regulatory Charge (which helps defray various government charges we pay including government number administration and license fees); (ii) a Federal Universal Service Charge (and, if applicable, a State Universal Service Charge) to recover charges imposed on us by the government to support universal service; and (iii) an Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge, which helps defray and recover certain direct and indirect costs we or our agents incur, including:
(a) Costs of complying with regulatory and industry obligations and programs, such as E911, wireless local number portability and wireless tower mandate costs;
(b) Property taxes; and
(c) Costs associated with our network, including facilities (e.g., leases), operations, maintenance and protection, and costs paid to other companies for network services.

2. Is the Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge a new charge?
No. The Administrative Charge, an existing bill charge, was renamed the Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge effective June 23, 2022.
3. What devices were impacted by the December 1, 2022 increase?
Devices such as tablets, laptops and mobile hotspot devices that are on data-only consumer service plans were impacted by the increase. The Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge remained at $3.30 per line for devices such as smartphones, basic phones, and smartwatches that are on consumer service plans with voice service. Customers on 5G Home Internet and LTE Home Internet plans did not see a monthly increase.
4. Why is Verizon increasing the Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge?
We review this charge from time to time, and make adjustments to recover some of the administrative and telco expenses and costs of complying with regulatory requirements we incur to provide service.
5. Is Verizon required to impose this charge by federal or state governments?
No. This is a Verizon wireless charge and is retained by Verizon. It is not a governmental tax or a government imposed fee.
6. Is this charge applied to the account or to each line on the account?
The Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge is applied to each line on the account.
7. Do other wireless phone companies bill this charge?
While they may have different names, similar cost recovery charges have been common across the industry for many years.
