How to set up Wireless Home Phone (4:25)
Home Phone Connect is a device that allows you to make and receive calls on the Verizon Wireless network while using your home telephone. In this video, you'll learn how to set up and start using your new Home Phone Connect device.
Before we begin, there are some important things to know about operating your Home Phone Connect device.
First, Home Phone Connect operates in the Verizon Wireless coverage area. You'll need to assess whether the actual coverage at your location is acceptable to you. Coverage can be affected by things like buildings, weather, foliage or terrain.
Second, Home Phone Connect is a voice-only service. The device is not compatible with any data service, including home security systems that require a telephone connection, fax machines, DVR services, medical-alert services, like Life Alert, mobile merchant or credit card machines and pulse or rotary dialing phones.
Now, let's set up your device. First, remove the battery cover. Insert the battery connection cable into the battery port until you feel a click. Place the battery into the slot and replace the cover. The battery is intended for back up purposes only, in the event of a power failure, and takes three and a half hours to fully charge.
Be sure the device is powered off before connecting the antenna. To connect the antenna, screw it into the port. Be sure that the connection is secure.
Plug the power adapter into the device, then into an AC wall outlet.
If you are waiting for your home phone number to be transferred to Home Phone Connect, stop at this point and leave your existing home telephone plugged into the wall jack to continue receiving incoming calls.
To check the status of the number transfer, call (877) 567-4899. It may take up to 10 business days to complete.
You can resume with these instructions and use Home Phone Connect to make and receive calls after you've received email notification that the number transfer is complete.
Now, let's get back to setting up Home Phone Connect. Using your own standard telephone cable, plug one end into Home Phone Connect, and the other into your telephone or cordless telephone base unit. If your telephone is plugged into a telephone wall jack, simply unplug the telephone cable from the wall and plug that end of the cable into the back of the device.
Home Phone Connect can be used with a total of two corded telephones or cordless base stations.
The device does not get plugged into the telephone jack. It's now your phone's connection to the Verizon Wireless network!
To activate the device, dial STAR 228 from the telephone connected to Home Phone Connect. Listen and when prompted, press "1" to begin programming. When programming is complete, you will hear a confirmation message and the call will automatically end. Hang up. When making calls, check if at least one signal-strength indicator is lit or blinking.
Home Phone Connect is now activated and you're ready to use your home phone! And remember to use the three-digit Area Code when dialing all local and long distance numbers.
