On today’s episode we heard from Associate Director of Network Performance Mike Waller, who shared all the recovery efforts happening at the Asheville Forward staging area.

The Asheville Forward staging area is currently serving as a hub for mobile assets to support recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene, including generators and satellite equipment. The facility provides housing and care amenities, with bedding available for approximately 150 people. Additional food supplies, particularly non-perishable items, are being brought in to support the needs of people on-site.

Support is being provided by critical vendors from various regions, including Louisiana and Florida, alongside engineers from Pennsylvania and upstate New York. These engineers, many of whom helped build the networks, are focused on identifying issues and restoring services for customers. The impact of service outages is significant, particularly in small towns where a single site may provide coverage for the entire area.

Just on the other side of the parking lot of the staging area are FEMA and Duke Energy, which have mobilized thousands of personnel, all of whom rely on Verizon.
